Volunteers

Are you looking for a job with high satisfaction and good working conditions; where you can meet people, solve interesting problems, tell people where to go, and at the same time be praised by others? One that has flexible hours and is important to the running of the organization; where you can read the fine print, know where the secrets are kept, and get to search powerful data bases; and best of all, not have to worry about salary or raises, income taxes, medicare, or manage retirement funds?

You can get all of the above and more if you become a VOLUNTEER in the Genealogy Department at the Wichita Public Library. As funds for the library become less and less available, it more critical that WGS fulfill the second part of our mission:

"to support the Local History and Genealogy Department of the Wichita Public Library"

Genealogy volunteers receive 20 hours of one-on-one training with professional staff. After training is completed, you can decide whether you feel comfortable working alone or while staff is present. Either way, you will be providing a great service to the library and the community.

Typical tasks range from shelving books to helping patrons with microfilm readers to answering questions about genealogy. If you are interested, you can work on special projects.

Hours are flexable and up to you.

Contact the Genealogy Department now and tell them you want to VOLUNTEER to help others in their research.
