Projects
From time to time WGS members and volunteers engage in special projects to further the resources available for genealogical research. These projects are mostly in and about Wichita and Sedgwick County. For existing projects and as new projects are being developed volunteers are always needed. If you like to read microfilm, research, type, proofread or index, we have a project for you. Contact WGS or ask at the library desk.
The Special Projects Committee is currently working on the following projects:
- Highland Cemetery - Currently working on section 1; photographing all stones; researching each of the 338 lots; writing articles for the AVC.
- Master Indexing - Currently working on indexing books that have no index and creating a master index of books about Sedgwick County to help researchers find information on a single topic in many books.
- Obituary Index - Currently searchiing for all obituaries in the Wichita Beacon, indexing and transcribing, and publishing in the AVC. So far 1907, 1908 are almost finished and are in the editing process; 1909 has been started.
