The 2010 Research Trip is to the Allen County Public Library (ACPL), home of the largest Public Library Genealogy Collection in the U.S. The round trip to Ft. Wayne, Indiana with five days at the Library leaves September 25, 2010 and returns October 3, 2010.
Some ACPL Facts:
ACPL has over 350,000 genealogical volumes with more than 50,000 volumes of compiled genealogies of American and European families and over 513,000 items of microfilm and microfiche. Many online databases are available. Also ACPL is the home of PERSI (PERiodical Source Index), one of the largest English-language genealogy and local history periodical collections in the world.
The Library has a vast collection of City Directories including nearly 50,000 Polk directories. Most National Archives passenger lists with indexes are available. ACPL has most of the microfilmed National Archives service and pension records from the Revolutionary War through the Philippine Insurrection.
Nearly 200,000 printed volumes including genealogies and local histories compliment the U.S. Local Records. Miscellaneous U.S. records, Native American records, and African American records round out the U.S. Collection.
In addition to Canadian records, an extensive collection of British Isles records, German records, and other countries completes the library's collection.
Some Trip Facts:
We leave on a Saturday (September 25, 2010) for a two day bus trip to Ft. Wayne, Indiana, home of the ACPL. Our first night is at the Airport Drury in St. Louis with beverages and a "Kickback" selection of evening hot food including Ball Park Hot Dogs & Chili, a Baked Potato Bar, and a Garden Salad. Check it out. Click here for details.
This is an Architect's rendering of the new Courtyard by Marriott.
We arrive the following day at the newly (currently under construction) completed Courtyard by Marriott located just two blocks from the Library. Here is where we "camp out" with a daily hot breakfast provided. (Just in case the hotel is not completed, we have arranged to stay at the Hilton (also two blocks from the Library) with a different arrangement for breakfast.
After spending Monday through Friday at the Library we are ready to return on Saturday for home. Again we stay at the Airport Drury in St. Louis and arrive in Wichita late afternoon on Sunday.
Trip Cost Facts:
After many negotiations, we are able to offer this trip to members for $665 per person for a double or $925 for a single. This includes all transportation and all accommodations with hot breakfasts every morning and evening meals on the road. Non-members, add $50. (Membership is $20, you do the math!) Space is limited, so be sure to Register now to reserve your space. A waiting list will be made if necessary. Entertainment is provided by your fellow travelers!
A Research Preparation Session:
